Frequently Asked Questions

Motor Claims

In the event of a motor incident, please call our motor claims department on 0845 051 5883 in the first instance, particularly if the incident is of a non-fault nature. You will also need to notify your insurance company, whose contact details will be found either on your Certificate of Insurance, policy booklet or Keyfacts summary of cover.

Always obtain the details of the third party and any independent witnesses but never admit liability.

Windscreen and glass claims must be made only through your insurer's approved replacement provider, otherwise you may be left an unexpected invoice.

Driving Other Cars

Common assumptions are made regarding Driving Other Cars extension (DOC) that are particularly dangerous. DOC is not automatically included with Comprehensive cover. The granting of DOC to a standard private car policyholder by an insurer is more determined by age and experience and not by the level of cover. Typically, DOC is not granted where the policyholder is under 25 years of age, or for certain occupations, or if there is a conviction or accident history. Commercial Vehicle or Goods Carrying Vehicles rarely include DOC. Always read your Certificate of Insurance very carefully to check if DOC is granted and in which circumstances the DOC extension can or cannot be used.

Motor Insurance Database

Following an EU Directive, motor vehicle insurers face possible fines of up to £75,000 if details of vehicles and drivers being placed on cover, or taken off cover, are not provided to the Motor Insurance Database (MID) within 7 days. It is essential that our Motor Trade clients make arrangements with us as to how to supply details of changes of vehicles in their custody e.g. by e-mail, fax, or by direct internet access.

Instalments, Defaults & Cancellations

A selection of insurance premium credit plans are made available for a vast majority of policyholders, subject to status. Funding is made available by external providers and repayments are made by Direct Debit. In the event of payment default, additional administration charges are normally levied.

It is imperative that you check with us the outstanding balance of a credit plan before cancelling a Direct Debit as policy cancellation refunds are often insufficient to settle the balance due, leaving a shortfall which will need to be settled.
